Tom Dekker Fund

The Victoria Disability Resource Centre is filled with honour and gratitude for receiving a one-time, $10,000 donation from Ken Sudhues in loving memory of his late partner, a dear friend to our organization and the persons with disabilities community, Tom Dekker.
Tom was an early adapter, a lover of technology and the many ways it can aid persons with disabilities, especially his fellow members of the blind community. He dedicated his life to teaching those who are blind or partially sighted how to navigate their daily lives more independently and by demonstrating how advancements in assistive technology could help them (e.g. Voiceover for navigating iPhones and iPads).
Tom was also a big supporter of direct service agencies that provide assistance and support to those who really need it, as well as employment and volunteer opportunities for persons with disabilities.
With this incredible donation, our organization will endeavour to strengthen opportunities for staff skills training, and by developing new programs and services. We hope to provide people in the disabilities community with access to many new opportunities and experiences, just as Tom dedicated his life to doing.
