The Victoria Disability Resource Centre (VDRC) is seeking passionate and committed community members to serve on our volunteer Board of Directors.
About the VDRC
Since 1990, the VDRC has been a grassroots, cross-disability, charitable organization run by and for persons with disabilities. As a proud member of Independent Living Canada, we champion the rights of persons with disabilities to make their own choices, take risks, and fully participate in every aspect of community life.
We have made a lasting impact through:
- Delivering Information & Referral services that help thousands navigate vital supports and benefits.
- Providing Peer Support and Skills Development programs that empower individuals to grow their confidence and independence.
- Partnering with businesses, schools, and government to remove barriers and expand opportunities.
The VDRC is a cornerstone in our community, working tirelessly to ensure people with disabilities can live with dignity and equality.
Board Member Role
As a governance board, members:
- Set the strategic direction of the Centre.
- Ensure financial integrity and sustainability.
- Maintain the legal and ethical accountability of the organization.
Board meetings are held virtually every two months in the evening, lasting approximately 60–90 minutes.
Bylaws require that at least 51% of our Board be persons with disabilities, ensuring we remain true to our grassroots foundation and lived experience leadership.
What We’re Looking For
We welcome applications from individuals who are:
- Committed to inclusion, accessibility, and disability rights.
- Ready to contribute governance expertise, diverse perspectives, and lived experiences.
- Interested in helping shape a stronger, more inclusive community for all.
Orientation and training are provided. Board terms are typically two years, with opportunities to serve on committees such as Finance, Human Resources, or Executive.
