Ever dreamed of standing on a stage with a mike and making people laugh? Here’s a great way to get started: Broad Street Theatrics is offering standup comedy workshops in Victoria at the James Bay New Horizons centre, and other locations. Broad Street Theatrics has been creating theatre and comedy productions in Victoria since 2011, and they have recently formed a non-profit society.

Victoria Disability Resource Centre members Les Chan and Lenore LeMay are among the participants in the workshop profiled in this video. Entry to this particular workshop is closed, but Broad Street Theatrics plans more in the future.


No experience required--all you need is a sense of humour, a pen and a large old-school notebook

The workshop sessions are held once a week for seven weeks. The instructor is Kirsten Van Ritzen, an experienced comedienne, actress and workshop leader.

No experience is required—workshop organizers say . Allow 30 to 60 minutes per week of creative homework outside of class.

Open to adults 19+. Broad Street offers Level 1 and 2 workshops, and class participants are given the option of performing for a live audience at the end. A level 1 class will perform at Hillside Coffee & Tea on May 26.
