BC Ombudsperson
The BC Ombudsperson helps make sure people are treated fairly by public services in British Columbia. That includes services like government-run housing programs, income assistance, public hospitals, and government ministries.
If you think a public organization didn’t treat you fairly, you can contact them. They will listen to your concerns, look into what happened, and may be able to help fix the problem or suggest changes to improve services. They don’t report to the government. Their job is to be fair, independent, and help public services work better for everyone. They’re open Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm (Wednesday until 12:30 pm). They offer services in many languages and can support accessibility needs. Their services are free, confidential, and for everyone.
Services offered include:
- Listening, assessing and responding to enquiries and complaints from the public
- Educating citizens and public organizations about how to be fair in the delivery of services
- Conducting thorough, impartial and independent investigations
- Resolving complaints and recommending improvements to policies, procedures and practices
- Reporting publicly to bring attention to issues that impact the public
